Job Overview
The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) is a state-owned enterprise that runs one of Tanzania’s two main railway networks. the Headquarters are located in Mchafukoge, Ilala District, Dar es Salaam Region.
When the East African Railways and Harbours Corporation was dissolved in 1977 and its assets divided between Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, TRC was formed to take over its operations in Tanzania. In 1997 the inland shipping division became a separate company.

ARTISAN II (CIVIL)(RE-ADVERTISED) – 68 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Packing of the railway track as directed by the supervisor;
- To clear grass and bushes along the line;
- To clean side drains and water outlets;
- To repair the track after accidents
- To Load and offload permanent way materials;
- To Performs any other related duties that maybe assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Holder of form four Certificate with one of the following qualifications; Trade Test II/Level II, National Vocational Award II (NVA II) in Civil Technology or Basic Certificate in Civil Technology or equivalent qualification from recognized institution.
ARTISAN II (PAINTING) – 5 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Packing of the railway track as directed by the supervisor;
- To assist in preparation of painting materials;
- To paint the coaches ;and
- To repair the track and coaches after accidents.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Holder of form four Certificate with one of the following qualifications; Trade Test II/Level
II, National Vocational Award II (NVA II) in Civil Technology or Basic Certificate in Civil Technology (Painting), Basic certificate in rail Track Technology or equivalent qualification from recognized institution.
TECHNICIAN II (SIGNAL & TELECOMMUNICATION) – 10 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To planning, design, constructions and maintenance of S &T equipment and systems;
- To overseer market utilization and expansion of the fibre optic cable along railway network;
- To install, maintain, and repair SGR/MGR signals and telecommunication network and equipment;
- To take part in accident investigation in line with other departments
- To take part in maintenance of train control, electronic warrant system, cargo/wagon tracking and its management system, yard radio, underground cables and internal office communications;
- To contribute on the preparation of reports, plans and designs for S&T projects;
- To prepare project quantity and cost estimates;
- To prepare and submit periodical technical reports; and
- To perform any other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Holder of Full Technician Certificate (FTC) Or Ordinary Diploma in Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Engineering or Equivalent from Recognized Institution.
PLANT OPERATOR II – 33 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To operate winch, cranes as per approved procedures and policies;
- To provide quality services on plant operation;
- To perform gangway activities
- To operate the mechanical equipment (Winch, Folk Lifts and Terminal Tractors and Cranes) as per approved procedures and policies
- To carry out loading, offloading or discharging and delivery of Motor vehicles and other cargo into/from trains;
- To drive and operate mechanical handling equipment’s within the Workshops, yard premises and Depot Yards such as Forklifts, shunting tractors, green butts, Stationery pillars and gantry manual or powered; and
- To performs any other relevant duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Form IV academic Certificate with Basic Driving Certificate offered by VETA, Bandari College, TIRTEC or any recognized Institution and Class F or G Driving License.
STATION MASTERS II – 30 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To signal, receive and dispatch trains;
- To ensure that trains and traffic working at the stations are done expeditiously according to the rules and regulations;
- To provide for safe and expeditious movement of trains, traffic and trains working, passenger and freight sales
- To supervise security of station installation and equipment, and general administration of the small and medium station;
- In-charge of a designated section of a Marshalling Yard and responsible for the breaking up and marshalling of trains;
- To direct, control and participate in marshalling and breaking up of train loads and clearing and placing traffic into local sidings, goods sheds etc.;
- To supervise placing and removal of wagons; and
- To check the setting of points;
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Holders of Diploma or NTA Level VI in Railway Transportation. Must have trains working skills
YARD MASTER II – 6 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To be in-charge of a designated section of a Marshalling Yard;
- To be responsible for the breaking up and marshalling of trains;
- To placing and removal of wagon
- To supervise loading and unloading delivery vehicles by hand or with folk lift track;
- To supervise sorting and grading Stock; and
- To perform any other related duties that may be assigned by the supervisor;
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Yard Foremen Certificate awarded by TIRTEC or NTA level 4 in Railway Transportation or its equivalent qualifications.
MECHANICAL ARTISANS II – 3 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To maintain rolling stock and locomotives;
- To maintain workshop machinery and plants; and
- To service handling equipment and ancillary plants.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Holder of Secondary Education Certificate with Trade Test II, National Vocational Award II (NVA II) in Mechanical Technology or equivalent from recognized institution.
ARTISAN II (PLUMBING & DRAINAGE) – 9 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Packing of the railway track as directed by the supervisor;
- To open up drainages systems ;
- To clean side drains and water outlets;
- To repair the plumbing system after accidents; an
- To maintain plumbing system.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Holder of form four Certificate with one of the following qualifications; Trade Test II/Level
II, National Vocational Award II (NVA II) in Civil Technology or Basic Certificate in Civil Technology (Plumbing & Drainage), Basic certificate in rail Track Technology or equivalent qualification from recognized institution.
ARTISAN II (HIGHWAY & BRIDGES) – 15 POST
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Packing of the railway track as directed by the supervisor
- To clear grass and bushes along the line;
- To clean side drains and water outlets;
- To repair the bridges after accidents; and
- To Load and offload high way & Bridges material.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Holder of form four Certificate with one of the following qualifications; Trade Test II/Level
II, National Vocational Award II (NVA II) in Civil Technology or Basic Certificate in Civil Technology (Highway &Bridges), Basic certificate in rail Track Technology or equivalent qualification from recognized institution.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To undertake maintenance of bridges, culverts, building and track works;
- To read and review project drawings and plans to determine the sizes of structures;
- To prepare track maintenance plans and submit the same to Supervisor;
- To take part in testing construction materials and soil samples in laboratories
- To ensure that project construction conforms to design specifications and applicable permanent way requirements; and
- To perform any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Holder of Full Technician Certificate (FTC) Or Ordinary Diploma in Civil Engineering/Technology, Track Technology, Bridge Construction or Equivalent from Recognized Institution.
